Hey All.. I'm just interested to know if magicians regularly use shells in their coin magic, or do you prefer to perform impromptu magic with ordinary coins over tricked coins?
Hi i am magician Gopal From India.. I play with normal 4 coin routine and jumbo coin production. My opening act is produce the coin in empty frame, then routine and final jumbo coin production.
I learned most of my technique of sleights, flourishes etc before shells came along, but I'm glad they've been created, since adult magic is based on assumptions, i.e. coins are solid, they allow for even more amazing and inventive illusions. Although the basic trick can be perplexing for the spectator, on their own they're way too simple and not magical enough. Also there is the noise factor. Clinking and clicking sounds where you don't want them can blow the whole illusion, so care in handling is needed.
I think that it's far more productive to combine the mechanical with the learned skill-based fingerwork, work out a good, well motivated story too, and it's possible to build yourself a fairly good effect.
